Stanhopea (Frost passe Hooker 1829) is a genus of the orchidaceae (Orchidaceae) (subfamily Epidendroideae, tribe Maxillarieae, subtribe Stanhopeinae) from Telephone exchange & South Usa.

A genus is known as for the Quaternary Earl of Stanhope (Philip Henry Stanhope) (1781-1855), president of the Medico-Botanical Society of London (1829-1837).

These epiphytic, but once in a while terrestrial orchids can be obtained around dampish forests from either Mexico to NW Argentine.

Their ovoid pseudobulbs carry from a top a single hanker, pleat, elleptic leaf.

These are noted for its complex & normally fragrant flowers that are typically outstanding & short-transitory. Their pended inflorescences are noted for flowering out of a bottom of the containers where it develop, lending themselves to culture within baskets that keep around plenty open space for the two to flower across. It is another time known as ably upside-inverted orchidaceous plant.

Virtually all Stanhopethe flowers flash player a large, elegant horn, except S. annulata, S. avicula, S. cirrhata, S. ecornuta & S. pulla. Two or three develop lone the short horn : S. candida, S. grandiflora, S. reichenbachiana, S. tricornis & a intercrossed S. 10 herrenhusana. These exceptions come known as "primitive Stanhopea species".

Stanhopea wardii occurs as master inside deceiving insects. Across scent generated in the hypochile, it attracts male euglossine bees (besides known as orchidaceous plant bees or even long-tongued bees). While a bee touches down on a flower, an intoxicating chemical substance professional makes a bee glide down on the slippy lip into the flower. A yearn column is touched in the process, ensuant in the bee ingesting higher pollinia. Whilst allowing a flower, a pollinia come deposited on the stigma.

A majority of coinage come robust plants that develop readily inside cultivation.
